Yaron Traub, Conductor

Yaron Traub, a native of Tel Aviv, has been the Music Director of the Orquesta de Valencia, Spain since 2005.

Under Mr. Traub's visionary leadership the Orchestra has gained critical acclaim in Spain and throughout Europe as an ensemble of highest quality. He has succeeded in promoting the name of the orchestra in Spain and abroad by leading the orchestra in annual Spanish and European tours, appearing in major cities such as Zurich, Madrid, Barcelona, Prag, Stuttgart. In addition, Mr. Traub has attracted guest soloists of international renown such as Daniel Barenboim, Gidon Kremer, Yefim Bronfman, Radu Lupu, Truls Mork and Waltraud Meier for performances in sold-out concert halls.

By establishing national and international presence for his orchestra, Mr. Traub has succeeded in creating a strong bond between the city of Valencia and its orchestra, helping to secure long-term funding from city government. Major triumphs have been the launch of 2 campaigns: The first, to develop new concert audiences; the second, an education concept targeting children, teen-agers and families, thereby conveying the joy of classical music to the young generation, securing the foundations of future audiences. In the past few years over 50,000 children have experienced classical music for the first time as part of this exciting and innovative campaign.

The growing interest and appreciation for the concerts of Yaron Traub by the Valencian community is reflected in the dramatic increase in the number of subscribers, the huge demand for tickets, and regularly sold-out concerts. In the 2009/2010 season alone, 1000 new subscribers have joined for the first time as part of the new "Highlight" series of the orchestra, repeating the top concerts of the season. The public enthusiasm along with the critical acclaim confirm the golden age that the Orquesta de Valencia is experiencing under the directorship of Yaron Traub, positioning it as one of the most important and valued cultural entities of Spain.

CLÁSICA ABC, César Rus, Madrid -
“Magnificent guest appearance in Madrid, the Orquesta de Valencia with Yaron Traub conducting Gustav Mahler's Fifth ... The whole work was splendidly drawn together by a conscientious, thorough, not to say plastic and remarkably vivid conducting style in the hands of the Principal Conductor of a great symphonic ensemble: the Orquesta de Valencia”

Yaron Traub, whose father, Chaim Taub, was concertmaster of the Israel Philharmonic, studied piano in Germany, proceeding with conducting studies at London's Guildhall School of Music. His conducting pursuits next led him to Munich where he worked extensively with Sergiu Celibidache. His first professional post was Assistant Conductor to Daniel Barenboim at the Bayreuth Festival, and subsequently, between 1994-1999 he served as Associate Conductor of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. As an exceptional pianist, Mr. Traub has played and directed from the keyboard Mozart piano concerti, as well as partnering at chamber music concerts with musicians such as soprano Waltraud Meier and Guy Braunstein, Concertmaster of the Berlin Philharmonic.

In 1998 Yaron Traub won the Orchestra Prize at the 4th Kondrashin International Conducting Competition in Amsterdam. His career took off with engagements worldwide including: the Rotterdam Philharmonic, Israel Philharmonic, the orchestra of the Accademia Santa Cecilia in Rome, Swedish Radio Symphony, Radio Filharmonisch Orkest of Holland, the Sydney and Melbourne Symphony Orchestras in Australia, Gulbenkian Orchestra in Lisbon, L'Orchestre National de Lyon, the Düsseldorf Symphony, the NDR Radio Philharmonic, the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra and the Singapore Symphony Orchestra.

This season the Orquesta de Valencia under the visionary leadership of Yaron Traub will celebrate the centenary of Gustav Mahler by performing the complete Mahler Symphonic cycle.
